Murphey Candler Park
About this Location
Murphey Candler Park is one of those spots that quietly delivers everything a photographer could want without feeling overhyped. The lake is the star of the show—especially during golden hour—when the light reflects off the water and creates those clean, glassy compositions that just work. You’ve got long sightlines, subtle leading lines from the walking paths, and just enough tree coverage to frame your shots without blocking the light. It’s also one of the more peaceful parks in the area, which makes it easy to slow down and actually be intentional with your compositions.
What I really like about this park is the variety you can get without having to move far. You can shoot wide landscape frames around the lake, tighter nature shots with the surrounding trees, and even casual lifestyle or portrait sessions along the trails. In the fall, the color adds another layer, and in the morning, you’ll sometimes catch soft fog over the water that gives everything a cinematic feel. It’s not trying too hard—and that’s exactly why it’s such a solid, reliable location for photographers.
