Camera Types

In the world of photography, there are many camera types that exist. Some cameras come with the lens already attached and some come with only the camera body.  The camera body is where all the mechanics of an image are worked out.

Point & Shoot
Point and Shoot cameras are compact cameras, useful for people who want to capture vacation pictures or family pictures. These are for people who are interested in photography, but also just wanted to capture images. They come with a fixed lens and variable focal length. You will not be able to get the telephoto reach in a point and shoot camera.
DSLR
A DSLR camera is the short form of Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera. DSLR cameras come with a detachable lens. So, you can change the camera lens based on the type of photography. If you are doing landscape photography, you can mount a wide angle lens and for wildlife photography a telephoto lens.
Mirrorless Camera
If you remove the optical viewfinder from a DLSR camera, then you get the mirrorless. So, the optical viewfinder would be missing from the mirrorless camera. This removes some amount of weight from the camera body. Image falling on the camera sensor can be seen directly on the viewfinder. This makes mirrorless cameras lightweight and easy to handle.
Smartphones
The rise of smartphones with good cameras resulted in the decline of point and shoot cameras. Some smartphone even allows you to capture the image in RAW format, which you can edit later. But, don’t expect this RAW file to have the same amount of picture details like a DSLR or a mirrorless one. These types of cameras are mostly suited for people who always want to have some camera in their pocket or for those who don’t want to carry separate cameras.
Medium Format
In the early days, medium format cameras used 120mm films. In this digital age, the film got replaced by the digital camera sensor with a size similar to the 120mm film. Few manufacturers still produce medium format film cameras. It comes with a bigger camera sensor and at a higher price. So, if you are looking for extremely high-quality images with a high noise performance then you should go for medium format cameras. So, this is the first choice of camera for fashion photographers.
Film Cameras
It all started with film cameras. During the early days of photography, we use film as the medium to record images. Later, Film got replaced by the camera sensor and memory cards. The ISO part of the image comes as the film feature. So, we need to change the film rolls according to our ISO needs. You can control the Aperture and Shutter speed from the camera.

Lens Basics

The lens of the camera is what allows light to travel thru to the sensor.  It is in the lens, where image quality can be drastically improved.

What is a Camera Lens?
The lens is what focuses light from what you see through the viewfinder into a tiny, (typically) 35mm spot on the back of your film, DSLR, or mirrorless camera. If you remove the lens from your camera, the only kind of image you can produce is white light.
How a Lens Works?
All lenses filter and focus light so that it hits the sensor or film strip correctly. However, there are a variety of other factors that determine how a camera lens affects the look and quality of the final photo. Such as Focal Length, Glass Quality and Inner Focusing Mechanics.
Quality
Consequently, a high-quality lens can help you capture great photos even with a cheap camera, while a low-quality lens can make the best camera mediocre and the resulting image quality, poor.
Lens Types
There are only two main types of lenses, Prime and Telephoto. Prime lenses have a fixed focal point like 50mm or 85mm. They are often used in portrait photography and are excellent at capturing Bokeh. The other type of lens is the Telephoto lens and is commonly used in wildlife and action photography. Giving users the flexibility to capture subjects at variable focal lengths.
Focal Lengths
Focal length is used to determine the distance a lens can reach. Digits are commonly termed in millimeters. With lengths varying between 16mm and 400mm. 16mm has a wide angle of view where as 400mm would have a sharp angle of view as it is zoomed in.
Aperture
Aperture determines the amount of light that will reach the sensor by opening and closing the hole where light passes thru to the sensor. Aperture settings commonly run from f1.2 - f22. Lenses that have a fixed aperture tend to be more expensive and are made of high quality glass. Not every lens is made to auto-focus, however most lenses are capable of this feature.

Post Production

From the moment an image is taken, any action taken after can be considered Post – Production

What is Photo Post Production?
Photo Post Production involves all activites that take place after a photo is taken. This includes; Acrchiving, Photo Editing and Distribution. Even though we aim to take perfect photos in the field, sometimes they still need editing support. When it comes to photo editing, there is a vast playground to create almost anything. The goal is to enhance the shot you intended to create and not get lost in what the final shot could be.
Archiving Photos
We always archive photos first because we never want to lose what we shot out in the field. So it is most important that we transfer the photos from the memory card to a laptop/computer via a memory card reader. Once this step is complete, we immediately back up these photos onto an external USB drive or hard-drive. This is the best way to backup and protect our most precious assets, our photos.
Photo Editing
Image editing encompasses the processes of altering images, whether they are digital photographs, traditional photo-chemical photographs, or illustrations.
Editing Software
Photo editing software is used to manipulate or enhance digital images. This category of software ranges from basic apps, which are able to apply simple effects, to industry-standard programs used by professional photographers for more advanced needs. Many functionalities of these programs mimic the manual photo editing techniques used in a dark room.
Photo Distribution
Now that your photo is edited to your liking, it's time to share it! Whether you want to print, upload or turn your photo into an NFT, this is the time to do it. There are many ways to share and also some great ways to monetize your photos.
